Mapping The Insurance Maze

Hello World!

I guess I should probably start with my name…but who has time for that! ^_^

If you are reading this, I am hoping it’s because you had an insurance question, and after racking your brain for 15 minutes, Google sent you to me to help…..hopefully. If not, that’s ok too. I welcome everyone. My name is Michael or Mike. I’m your average African-American male with a dry sense of humor, who was traumatized by the insurance field at a young age…I joke and kid. LOL.

At the ripe age of 21 years old, I was brainwashed…..I mean blessed……to have an opportunity to work for the largest Property & Casualty insurance carrier in the United States. All jokes aside, working there was honestly one of the best decisions and opportunities granted to me, because it set the wheel in motion for all the decisions that I’ve made today. It was also there that I learned I had NOOOOOOO Idea what the heck insurance really was.

Picture It…a 21 year old college Junior, with state minimums on the beautiful icy roads of a small college town in the midwest. Can you say financial ruin any faster. Thankfully, after I completed training, the first thing I did was rob Peter to pay Paul (I adjusted my spending habits), to increase my coverage limits, because once you learn about insurance, you appreciate the value it is.

Fast forward 16 years later….and I’m still getting punished day after day after day after day. You’d think I would have learned my lesson and ran, but no, I continue to show up to help navigate the maze that is Insurance for my policyholders.

Now for the reason you came. Hopefully it’s because I can impart some wisdom about this insurance nonsense. I hope so too. If you’re wondering why you should give my blog two seconds of your time…well, I think I’m awesome, and want to help folks understand the thing they pay for every month, but have no clue how it works. I’ve also been in the field for coming up to two decades.

Did I forget to mention that I’m well educated……Yeah….. I hold the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Chartered Life Underwriters (CLU) designations (think Master degrees in insurance). I am a Fellow in the Life Management and Financial Services Institute (FLMI/FFSI), hold 12+ other insurance and Water/Fire/Mold/Trauma certifications, and have both a General Agent (2-20) and Claims Adjuster license.

Now that I’ve gotten that out the way, and hope you haven’t written me off, I do hope that I am able to teach you something. This is my way of giving back to the world.

I don’t anticipate that future blogs will be this long, but this is the first.
